How you eat here

The menu is long and sorted into blocks, which makes the house easy to read at a glance: starters, petiscos, main courses, salads and vegetables, set lunches, pizza and house burgers. With thirteen straight hours of service, each block has its hour.

What comes from the sea

This is the heart of the kitchen. The starters include fresh oysters and gratinated oysters, both by the half dozen; fish ceviche, diced and cured with lime, red onion, coriander, mango and chilli; a shrimp cocktail with breaded prawns in a creamy sauce; and two bruschettas, the classic tomato and parmesan and a shrimp version.

Among the mains sit the two moquecas. Moqueca de peixe, fish cooked in coconut milk and dendê oil, with rice and pirão. And moqueca potiguar, which adds shrimp to the fish in the same pot. Alongside them, camarão na moranga, shrimp served inside a squash with rice and fried manioc; camarão tropical, shrimp in a creamy sauce served inside a pineapple; and whole fish, with rice, salad and potato or fried manioc.

The petiscos and the set lunches

The petiscos are built for a shared table and all come with fries: breaded shrimp, fish fingers, steak, crispy chicken, breaded chicken and carne de sol. There are also two broths, caldinho de mariscos and caldinho de camarão, the right small plate when the day has been long.

The executivos block explains why the house works at midday: eight complete plates with the sides included. There is beef parmigiana and chicken parmigiana, both with pasta and fries; camarão ao pesto; grilled fish with rice, salad and potato; grilled chicken with rice, green beans and farofa; carne de sol with manioc and queijo coalho; breaded steak; and aubergine parmigiana, the house's hot vegetarian option.

Pizza and burgers

There are thirteen pizzas, among them carne de sol, shrimp, steak with fries, portuguesa, four cheese, vegetarian and a sweet one with chocolate and strawberry. And three house burgers with names of their own: the Point da Pipa, a 120-gram patty with mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, onion and house sauce in a potato bun; the Maverick, which adds cheddar, bacon and caramelised onion; and the Duplo Point, with two patties.

For the vegetarian table

There is a whole block of salads and vegetables. The tropical salad brings mixed leaves, tomato, carrot, red onion, olives, mango and hearts of palm. The quinoa and chickpea salad comes with mixed leaves and confit tomato. And the vegan sandwich is built on a chickpea patty with tomato, lettuce, onion and a vegan sauce.

What to drink

The cocktail list is long: caipirinha, caipiroska, caipifruta, mojito, cosmopolitan, piña colada, tequila sunrise, sex on the beach and a tropical gin, among others. There is beer by the bottle and in long necks, wine, spirits and coffee.

In the house's photographs the bar shows up in full, bottles ranked on the shelf behind and an orange drink finished with a dehydrated lime wheel and a sprig of rosemary. And in daylight there is another: a red drink with basil served in a wine glass, next to the chalkboard at the door.

The room

The room works on two levels joined by a lit staircase, with solid wood tables and bench seating below and high tables above. Woven-fibre globe lamps and strings of lights hang from the ceiling end to end, and there are paintings, a flag and a television on the walls.

By day it changes: natural light comes in, the flower garlands along the railing read properly and the room becomes a wide, airy dining hall. That double personality — bright lunch, dinner under strung lights — is what the thirteen-hour day is built on.

The house describes itself as casual, quiet and trendy, and it takes groups and travellers. There is a restroom, small plates for anyone dropping in to pick, and bookings, worth using when the table is large.

When to go

Open seven days, 11am to midnight. Thirteen straight hours, with no break between lunch and dinner. In a village where a good share of the kitchens close one or two days a week, that solves the awkward afternoons: the one back late from a trip, the rainy one, the last one before the flight.

At midday the executivos block and the menu of the day are the short route: a complete plate with its sides, no hour-long wait. At night the full menu opens up, with the moquecas, the pizzas and the cocktails.

Where it is and how to get there

It sits at Rua das Gameleiras 36, in the centre. You can walk there from anywhere in the village and the entrance is recognisable by the thatched roof, the orange columns and the plants on the pavement.

There is free street parking, though in the centre walking remains the comfortable option. From Praia da Pipa you come up and turn onto Rua das Gameleiras. If you are arriving from Natal, from the airport or from another beach along the coast, look at the transfer options for the stretch into the village.

With children

The house is listed as good for children, and the menu helps even more than the listing: house burgers, thirteen pizzas, fries, breaded chicken and small plates. The continuous hours mean you can have dinner at six, which is when a family actually eats.

The room has two levels joined by a staircase, so with a pushchair it is easier to stay on the lower level, the one that opens onto the street.

Who is it for?

For the table that wants moqueca: there are two, the fish version and the potiguar with shrimp, both with rice and pirão.

For anyone eating lunch in a hurry who wants a complete plate: eight set lunches with sides included and a menu of the day that rotates.

And for the mixed table that never agrees: moqueca, pizza, a house burger, a quinoa salad and a vegan sandwich on the same menu.
