Sun, salt and sea.
At Largo Barra de Tibau, where the Guaraíras lagoon opens out to the sea and the centre of Tibau do Sul runs into sand, you find 90 Beach Bar: a thatched roof, wooden tables set straight onto the sand, sun loungers and parasols facing the water. The place sums itself up in three of its own words — sun, salt and sea — and it works by day, seven days a week. The boat trips leave from this same stretch of shore.

This is a beach bar table and it behaves like one: you arrive, you pick a table on the sand or a lounger under a parasol, and you order right there. The house states eat-in service, takeaway and no-contact delivery, so the same order can be settled sitting in front of the water or picked up on the way through.
The format is the petisco: plates that go to the middle of the table and get shared while the afternoon goes by. The house puts it in four words of its own — seafront food — and the opening hours back it up: it opens mid-morning and closes as the sun starts to drop. What is served here is lunch and a long sit afterwards.
There are vegetarian options and there are vegan options, the latter with a section of their own on the bar's Instagram. On a bar built on sand that is not a given, and it is the detail that settles a mixed table before anyone sets off.
The bar takes cards, which on a sand spit a few kilometres from Pipa village changes the logistics of the day more than it sounds.
The bar counter is the other half of the plan. In their own words, what they offer is good drinks, good laughs and good energy, and their Instagram keeps a whole section devoted to the drinks list.
What comes up again and again in their own posts is exactly what you order with your feet in the sand: caipirinha, very cold beer and coconut water. Three simple things, and the three of them hold up a whole afternoon at the table.
Given the hours it keeps — closing between half past four and six, depending on the day — the counter is a daytime counter from end to end: the midday drink, the mid-afternoon one, the one that goes with the petisco and the one that stretches until closing.
Two things set this bar apart from the rest of the coast, and the house announces both itself.
The first is live music. The bar has a stage of its own and programmes shows: on Instagram they announce dates for pagode and samba with a group playing, and they keep a permanent section devoted to the shows. If the music is why you are going, check their profile before you set off, because the line-up is booked date by date.
The second is the speedboat trips. They sit on the first line of their profile, next to the name, and they leave from this same stretch of shore: Largo Barra de Tibau is the point where the lagoon meets the sea, which is where the boats move. The bar works with a trip operator, and the trip itself is arranged directly over WhatsApp.
Together those two explain the line they introduce themselves with: more than a beach bar, an experience. Here the plan does not end when the plate does.
The bar is built on the sand and is an outdoor space from end to end. What their photographs show is a timber structure under a thatched roof, tables and benches resting straight on the sand, loungers under parasols and coconut palms all around. The sea is in front, in view from any table.
There is a toilet and there is Wi-Fi, both stated by the house. On a long beach afternoon those are precisely the two things that tend to be missing.
It works in three different modes depending on who you bring: the long wooden table for a group, the shade of the thatch for a family, and the lounger facing the water for two. The bar sums it up in a line of its own: sun, salt and sea.
The hours are the fact worth having to hand, because they change from day to day:
It does not close on any day of the week. That makes it a firm option for a Monday and for a Tuesday, which is when a good share of the kitchens around here take their day off.
From end to end this is a daytime bar. At ten in the morning you arrive to empty sand and your pick of the tables. Between midday and three is the lunch stretch and the strong sun, with the shade of the thatch and the palms as part of the plan. And from four onwards the long sit begins, which is when the place goes quiet.
The weekend is another matter: on Saturday and Sunday the house runs until six in the evening, an hour and a half longer than the rest of the week. If you want the whole afternoon, those are the two days. And if you go on a Thursday, remember it opens half an hour later than usual.
It sits at Largo Barra de Tibau 02, in central Tibau do Sul, north of Pipa Beach. It is not inside the village: you head up the coast, past Madeiro Beach, as far as the centre of Tibau do Sul. The Largo is the point where the lagoon opens to the sea, and the bar is down on the sand.
There is parking, so the car or the buggy stays right there and the day is settled in a single trip. If you are still working out how to move around, see how to get to Pipa and the transfer options for the run from Natal or from the airport.
And one piece of advice that genuinely counts at a bar that works on the sand: check the tide before you set off. How much sand is left in front of your table depends on the height of the water, and the month's tide table tells you what time is worth aiming for.
For a full beach day: you arrive mid-morning, set up on the sand, eat, drink and finish with the long sit, without moving the car again.
For the group that wants music: there is a stage of their own, there are shows, and there is live pagode and samba.
For anyone who wants to get out on the water: the boat trips leave from this same shore and are arranged beforehand over WhatsApp.
And for the mixed table, which is nearly every holiday table: vegetarian and vegan options are both on record, and the rest is a beach bar menu.
