Since 2010 in Pipa, serving the best of international cuisine
Tranquilo opens when the beach shuts down. At four in the afternoon it raises its shutter on Avenida Baía dos Golfinhos and keeps the kitchen running until midnight, seven days a week. It is a bar and restaurant with red walls, woven fibre lamps and tables laid with cloth napkins and an oil cruet in the middle. The house describes itself with four words that do not fight each other: cosy, casual, romantic and quiet.

This is a sit-down restaurant with waiters. You walk in, you are seated, and the table is already set: placemat, cutlery, cloth napkin and the oil cruet in the centre. There is no tray and no counter to order at; you eat sitting down and you set the pace.
The kitchen works with raw fish, pasta and grilled meat, and that shows in the house's own pictures. Tuna turns up twice, cooked two ways: seared outside and pink inside, with a seed crust and a dark sauce alongside, and also diced into a timbale, crowned with roe and set on a crisp base. Both are knife-work dishes, the kind you order to open the evening with a glass in hand.
The other half of the menu is longer: fettuccine with strips of beef and grated cheese on top, grilled fish with vegetables, a caprese built onto a skewer on a square plate. The portions the house shows are individual and plated, not sharing platters, so everyone orders their own and the table moves together.
The house lists dessert as part of table service, and that matters in a kitchen that only opens at four in the afternoon: you can come in for dessert alone, with a coffee, after dinner somewhere else. With the kitchen running until midnight, a late dessert is a genuine option rather than a leftover of the menu.
Alongside the main courses the house lists small portions and quick food. That changes how the place can be used: you can come in, have a drink and pick at something without committing to a full dinner, which is exactly what you want when you come down from your flat not hungry yet but ready to be out. The house also states that drinks-only orders are welcome, so sitting at the bar with a glass is a legitimate way to use it, not a favour.
Tranquilo does takeaway but does not deliver. The difference matters if you are sorting dinner out from your flat: here you have to collect it. Since it sits on the main avenue, the detour is short from almost anywhere in the centre.
There is a bar on site and the full list is stated: wine, beer, cocktails, spirits and coffee. In their pictures the drink arrives in a copper mug with mint and lime, and also in a tall glass with fruit: bar cocktails, not jug service.
That combination — its own bar, a kitchen open until midnight and permission to order drinks only — makes Tranquilo two places depending on the clock. Before nine it is a restaurant with laid tables. After that, with the room full and the avenue moving outside, it is a bar where you can also have dinner.
The dining room has red walls and a high ceiling. Woven fibre lamps hang from the beams and throw warm light downward, and one wall carries a gilt mirror with moulded framing, the kind that stretches a room and adds an older layer to it. Tables are dark wood, laid with a pale placemat and a cloth napkin, with enough space between them to talk without raising your voice.
Out front, over the pavement, the house keeps its covered outdoor area: tables under the eaves, the avenue passing by and the street greenery coming into frame. It is the part that fills first once the heat drops, and the part that explains why the house calls itself romantic and contemporary at the same time.
Morning light never reaches it: everything here happens in the afternoon and at night. When the room opens on the last brightness of the day you can see the pink of the back wall and the shine of glasses along the bar; two hours later the same room is orange all the way through.
Open seven days, 4pm to midnight. Eight straight hours and not a single closing day in the week. That continuity solves something real in Pipa: on Sunday and Monday nights, when part of the centre's kitchens pull the shutter down, there is still service here.
For the late afternoon, five to seven belongs to the outdoor area: you come up from the beach, order something cold and watch the avenue go by. For dinner, from eight onward, it is worth calling ahead: the house accepts bookings and in high season the room fills early.
And there is the slot almost nobody covers: the house lists late-night food. If the day ran long — a boat trip back after ten, a delayed flight into Natal, a long table somewhere else — there is a kitchen working here until twelve.
It stands on Avenida Baía dos Golfinhos at number 584, the main street of Praia da Pipa, on the stretch of the centre where the shops and kitchens cluster. You can walk there from anywhere in the village along the avenue itself, with no detour and no hill.
On the way back from the beach it falls on your route: you come up the avenue and the room appears on your right. If you are arriving from Natal, from the airport or from another beach along the coast, look at the transfer options to cover the long leg and then move on foot, which in central Pipa is the practical way.
One note for anyone driving: the house states that it has no wheelchair-accessible parking. Worth a phone call ahead if that weighs on your decision.
A table for two that wants dinner without noise: the place describes itself as romantic and quiet, it has a covered outdoor area and it takes bookings, so the table can be arranged in advance.
A group of friends heading out late: bar on site, cocktails, spirits, small plates and drinks-only orders, with a kitchen open until midnight.
And anyone eating alone. The house is listed as good for solo dining, which in practice means a bar, attentive service and no raised eyebrow when you ask for a table for one.
